Our salle d'armes
Our salle opened on May 25, 2004 as a result of the Salem
Family YMCA fencing program outgrowing the space available to it.
After a great deal of thought, planning, and research, we decided it was
time to divide and multiply, and our studio is the proud result. (SCF is not affiliated with the Salem Family YMCA.) We currently have more than 140 fencers.
Salem Classical Fencing's salle d'armes is located in what was originally a
lumber sales building at the corner of Belmont and Liberty in Salem's north downtown
area. Our 140-year-old building has more than 2,000 square feet of high-ceilinged light and airy space
devoted to the study of fencing, with another 1500 quare feet of office space, dressing rooms, additional classroom space, and overflow fencing areas.
The main salle has a custom-built suspended maple floor that your feet and knees will really
appreciate.
Our somewhat spartan facilities also include
men's and women's dressing rooms, a refrigerator/freezer, cold (and
hot!) bottled water, restrooms, and plenty of off-street parking.
Our salle is the only single-purpose fencing studio in the
Willamette Valley. It is one of the very few dedicated fencing spaces in
Oregon outside of Portland (most fencing clubs rent space by the hour at
a local school or community center). We maintain a friendly
and welcoming atmosphere, emphasizing respect, honor, and chivalry as we
continually improve ourselves and our fencing. And we have a lot of
fun!
Come see us!
